ISVA Child and Young Person

At the SARC children and young people can access the services of a specialist support worker called an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA).

The role of the ISVA is to work specifically with children, young people and their families or carers to provide information and support to help you recover from the physical and emotional impact of the assault. She will make sure you are listened to and she can talk to your school, family and other services if you wish so that you are fully supported and feel safe.

All our ISVA are fully trained on the ISVA Development Programme which is an accredited professional course focusing on the core skills and competencies required to work as an ISVA. This training is accredited by awarding body, NCFE.

If you are under 18, we will need to inform the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)  that you are being supported by the SARC.  We will always discuss this with you and listen to any concerns you may have which we will take seriously.

The MASH is a group of professionals that work together to look into all reports of abuse involving children and young people. Their aim is to make sure that you are safe and well.

If you are over 13 and decide to report to the police we will explain what to expect and keep you informed the whole time. We will also work with other agencies such as education; health and social care to make sure your needs are met.

The ISVA can see you at home or if you prefer at your school or college. You can keep in touch with us by phone or text too.
